I've heard some of the greatest string quartets, and they don't seem to have any problems tuning to the cello playing with vibrato. It seems to me that a pitch can still have a center even with vibrato. If the vibrato is poorly executed, then maybe the center of the pitch will suffer. Bass singers are also able to use vibrato and still maintain a pitch center.
