Do DCI if you want to. There's Carolina Crown and Tarheel Sun. Personally, I wouldn't bother auditioning for Brevard. I actually enjoyed the Eastern Music Festival more and feel I got more out of it for the money. Of course, if money is a problem, don't do either. Check into local universities and see what type of summer programs they have. Most of the time the cost is free. There are plenty to choose from: UNCG, WCU, ECU, UNC-Chapel Hill, NC State, etc.....
There's also Smokey Mountain Brass Band in Asheville and Raleigh Triangle Brass Band. You're only limited by how far you'd be willing to drive.
