I've played both instruments for as long as I play, and I do agree that a good horn is a good horn, regardless of the key. From a purely functional point of view, a BBb flat sousaphone is easier to keep in line intonationwise in Bb maj. than it is in B major. This is of coarse a generalization about most tubas and not the really good ones. But put me in a room with other Bb instruments than I'm personaly much happier also to play BBb simply because they all have the same intonation qwerks. Likewise, if I play with guitarists (who love to play in E & B) than CC makes me much happier. Lazy? Probably.
