To meet the requirement that instrumentation comply with traditional British Brass Band standards, a brass quintet entering the Small Ensemble Competition at the NABBA (North American Brass Band Association) gathering would have the following:

2 cornets
1 Eb tenor horn (which may, indeed, resemble Fred Mills' soprano tuba in appearance)
trombone
tuba (or, more properly referred to as Eb Bass or BBb Bass)
NO french horn or trumpets!

Prairie Brass Quintet, in which I play tuba, will be entering the NABBA Competition again this year with the instrumentation listed above. Please wish us good luck!
