Flute / oboe mechanics (the "school" not the "people) utilizes pins - where the hinge tubing is pinned or screwed to the interior steel rod at the place where it is activated by the finger... The next key downwind is allowed to turn freely on that same steel rod (i.e. is not effected by that finger key), but an action part (even later in the rod) is also pinned or screwed to the rod.

My wording describing this is poor, but a quick peek at a flute or oboe will reveal this logic immediately.
