tuba vs. sousa

In my early years I played sousaphone as well as tuba. 27 years later I'm looking for another tuba, and realizing that sousa's also are real instruments (and quite often playing an interchangeble roll with the tuba), I've decided to put my question up to the tubanet jury. The question is, whats the difference? Of coarse I don't mean cosmetically, general lack of more than three valves, and I'm not reffering to shoulder calluses either. On a professional level: response differences, intonation, sound, all the things that a person looks at when choosing an instrument. And, while I'm at it, maybe some ideas as to which sousa are the players choice. (I've heard the Conn 20k often mentioned). Once again, thanks to the community for taking the time with my questions.
