If you have worked through this with yourself, you will never let anyone else down. I know way too many people in music and in other careers who continued down a path just so they would not let someone else down.
As in other aspects of your life, the best thing to do is 'make a decision and then make it right'! The only way to succeed in life is to go after your own dream, not someone else's. Find a mentor on the other path and keep on keepin' on.
