The number one thing a person should receive by going to college is a liberalization. One of the marks of maturity is being able to accept that two opposing points of view can be equally correct.

The second point of going off to college. peace corps, or military service, is exposure to different cultures. When you meet other kids whose parents really did beat them just for meanness sake, you realize that rare and deserved paddling you got wasn't so bad. Worse yet, some kids are totally ignored. Maybe your folks aren't so bad after all.
Experience pays. Proximity pays. This where a college education can help. You will be exposed to musical oportunities. Therefore you can gain experience and then get more jobs. The average player who learns how to show up on time, be a team player, display professionalism, and such will offered more gigs than the most talented flake that can't be trusted to show up and do his/her part.

Well, that's what I currently think on that subject. Tomorrow is a new day and Tuesday will be a new year to have new thoughts. Matt
