That's all good advice. For Christmas, why don't you count the number of times the tuba gets practiced and see if it is worth it for Christmas break. Even some of us die hards take breaks when we get the chance.

If there is a light to moderate amount of practicing getting done, why not see about borrowing a tuba since all they are really doing is keeping some muscles in shape rather than really trying to improve. If there is a lot of practicing going on, then bring it home, or buy one of school, one for the house, one for travelling, and another one just to brag about.
