They are good isntruments. The rotary 2103 is on the small side of 4/4, it has a good sound, good intonation, good construction quality, and it's an agile instrument. It's a little smaller and brighter than a Meinl-Weston 25 or a Miraphone 186, but it's much more consistently made and durable than a Cerveny. It would be my choice if I wanted a new rotary tuba and didn't want to pay more than three grand for it.

VMI also make B&S tubas, and it is owned by the same company that owns Meinl-Weston, Courtois, and others. The upper-line VMI tubas are top-quality instruments. For example, the VMI Culbertson Neptune, in rotary form, is quite highly regarded by some orchestral players. Nobody owning a VMI has to think they are playing a second-class instrument.
