Here's what I like: I bought PrintMusic, the version of Finale with a few less features, for just $50. That's right, $50. (any of the on-line music stores should carry it for this price.) It does nearly everything Finale can, and definitely does everything I need it to.
The midi reader does a great job and is VERY fast. Mass-mover, which allows you to cut and paste measures from one part to another is easy to use and also fast. Extracting parts from the score is a breeze as well. Plus you can share the files with anyone who has any member of the CODA family. So I can open Finale files, as well as send my PrintMusic files to someone who has Finale.
