I'd bet a cup o java that the anecdote about a Bayreuth CC tubist being turned away is bogus. In fact, when Bob Tucci got his recording gig in the early 60's as a student over there, EVERYone fell over backwards over his performance using a Big Holton CC, and these recordings are still regarded as "the" benchmark Wagner operatic performance/recordings!
