That selmer stuff is NASTY!! The only thing that will get it off a tuning slide once applied is mineral spirits. Soap just won't cut it. I won't use it and it really gets me when instrument repair people automatically put that crap on my horn when they do work on it.

Enough of my rant..

You might try paint thinner.. of course the danger is your breathing bag may disintegrate in the process and if it doesn't it will likely smell so bad that you won't want to use it anymore. Odorless mineral spirits might help that a bit.. but it's also more expensive.
