That's a really good idea, especially the ring binder part. I cut the spine off of my Arban (trombone ed.) book and replaced it with spiral binding because I was tired of having to mess with it for an hour to get it to stay open on certain pages. The drawback to that, of course, is that after a few years of regular use, many of the pages begin to rip out.
Is the Encore publication of the Arban book for tuba as awkward to read on a music stand as the trombone and trumpet books are?
