I prefer the newer, one piece King 2341 to the 2 piece version, but the older ones are very good tubas, especially for the money. You can also often find them used in very good to excellent condition for very reasonable prices. The only similar Conn tubas are the 52/54/56Js, but they are in CC, not BBb. The Schmidt 3301 is actually the Brook Mays version of the VMI 3301. It looks like Brook Mays is going to stop carrying as many high end tubas, so they currently have Schmidt 3301s listed on "clearance" for $2975, in lacquer and they have the 5 valve 3302 for $3880, both great prices. I prefer the King 2341 to the VMI 3301 and the 4 valve 3301 to the 3302, but that is a matter of personal playing preference and all are very good horns.
