I was surprised that it didn't feel like it required significantly more air to me, but I was trying it out in a store and didn't play a whole concert with it. It was very free blowing in that the notes spoke with very little effort or resistance, but still didn't feel like I was using a lot of extra air. Maybe it makes more efficient use of the air you do use? I would be interested in trying one for a couple of hour concert and seeing how I felt afterwards.
