Doug Elliott suggested that I offset the mouthpiece position to the right of center by at least a quarter of an inch. This advice was for me alone, based on the way the mouthpiece fit my face. Not everyone has symmetrical features or musculature. So, I would say that there isn't anything specific wrong with doing it, but I would experiment carefully to make sure that I'm really making an improvement.
