Yes,
Conn recycled numbers quite a lot over the years. Dr. Donald Stauffer's 34J was a 4-front-piston tuba with a one-piece upright bell. However, the description in the 1937 catalog, and the 1935 model I owned were detachable-bell models, the 34J being the upright model professional recording bass, and the 36J being the "Wonderphone" model professional recording bass, to use Conn's terminology.
As an aside, I was somewhat amused when I saw that Conn labeled their new model CC tuba a 52J, because that was the model designation of a small Pan American Eb tuba in the 1920's.
