what happens when you put the upright bell in your Conn? The bell points to your right,
doesn't it? Thats different from "typical" tuba in an orchestral setting. If you imagine yourself and your section mates sitting in a shell, the trumpets point out of the shell. The french horns? Well, they're french horns. The trombones point out of the shell. If you were sitting there with your conn with an upright bell, it'd be pointing INto the shell instead of out. "they aim in a different direction" (into the depths of the stage instead of out into the hall)
