Actually, you might want to think of it as adding three sharps.  Taking away three flats from C major (for example) is a bit difficult.  This formula worked for me as I had played trumpet years ago and it came very easy.  However, it confused me when going back to the CC.  I couldn't figure out the note names in bass clef. Freaky!  There really isn't a "fast" way.  The above formula got me through but my first gig (when the horn player did not show) found me sight reading trombone music and taking it down an octave and I had my E-flat only 2 weeks.  The formula was of little use to me then.  I was flying by the seat of my pants.  I made flash cards and just kept putting the time in.  Many weeks later I would look at an E-flat on the staff, play it open and all the time I was thinking "that's a C!".  It took a while.
