My reaction was the same as Klaus'--they're not even remotely the same. Sort of like someone asking to buy either a YCB-621 or a PT-6 (maybe not quite as extreme, but you get the idea). The 981 is a horn that can support a good-sized orchestra; the 983 is more of a solo or ensemble horn.
Klaus did a good job of summing things up from his point of view. Who knows? It might cause the original poster to refine his request a bit.
