The upload of the scans of the 1976 Alexander of Mainz catalogue now has been completed. This project was made possible by two fine members of the horn community, Paul Mansur and Peter Piorkowski.

I have to issue a couple of disclaimers:

These .jpg files are based on 300dpi scans, which make the files quite huge in size. Freaks like myself want the opportunity to zoom in on details.

The Yahoo groups system, which I use to make my galleries publicly available only allows certain amounts of traffic within each group per day. That implies, that as soon as that limit has been hit, you will get some sort of error message. Then you will have to try one or more days later. For those of you planning to make frequent use of these files for reference purposes it might be a good idea to save them to your disk. On my Mac I simply drag them to the desktop or to the intended storage folder. I seem to remember Windows people telling something about right-clicking.

To optimise the use of the available storage space, these files have been placed in the files areas of existing groups within my gallery project. The implication of this: No thumbnail previews.

One big surprise for me: Alexander had front-action-pistons-bell-front baritones and tubas in their line-up.

The latest revision of the index for my galleries has not been uploaded yet, but it says this about the Alex files:

Alexander 1976 catalogue in 300dpi .jpg scans. Paul Mansur made the catalogue available and Peter Piorkowski made the scans. All catalogue pages including woodwinds and percussion can be found as a documentation for this company mostly known as a maker of rotary horns and tubas.
