I feel that I just want to give an FYI about the tubas I've played, because there's one interesting thing that I've found. In my playing history, I've played 3 tubas. The first one was a brand new Yamaha miniature tuba that my middle school just got then. The second tuba I played was the rotary tuba I'm playing the most now that's been estimated to be about 45 years old. (no one in my school knows how old that thing really is) The 3rd tuba is a Yamaha upright 4-valve piston tuba that I played with someone else, and that thing came winter of my freshman year brand new. I've heard a lot about pistons being better in the long run, but my thing is that I've played brand new piston valve tubas, and I've played a very old rotory tuba. I still heavily prefer that rotary tuba.
