I played a DS for 2 years, and found that my Monette 98 was NOT the right fit--I began to experiment, Merc mouthpieces, Conn-Helleb, the heavy-wall R&S, and finally found what worked nicely for the Kalison, a Doug Elliott combination of thin P rim, T bowl (128?) and larger shank (unlacquered brass.) This setup worked well, giving clear resonance, focus, and core to the sound. Good agility, soloistic projection, but can blend with quintets and regional orchestra work. I no longer play that horn as I own a Culbertson Neptune which complements the aforementioned 98.

If you have some, or if you can borrow from people around you, shlep abunch of mouthpieces on and off the horn. Play tunes you know well (and all the mouth gymnastics you can think of) and compare them. They will tell you the story you're after, methinks.
2 cents worth
