Joe, I'm not certain of what you're saying when you say "narrow leadpipe". As I see it, a leadpipe starts out at a diameter roughly corresponding to the diameter of the end of a mouthpiece shank and tapers toward the bore of the first valve.

So, if you've got a 0.750" bore entry port of the first valve, and the leadpipe is 12" long, it tapers from about a half-inch to three-quarters over that 12" length.

Are you saying that the taper is "faster" on the mouthpiece end of the pipe?
