I was in a similar situation at our church, where there are very decent brass and string ensembles. This was with the string group where I was playing st. bass and had only a cello part to read, part of which was OK for the bass, but ended up in some parts on 3rds and 5ths, etc. So in the break between the run-through and the performance, I took my wife's vocal score, which included the organ part, and just copied the bottom notes on the places where I needed to have them. The concert turned out fine.
