As I write this I am sitting with both the 24aw and the 18 on my desk along with a micrometer. Subjectively, I never liked the 18, the rim is too rounded and to "narrow" the 24AW has a much wider rim that I have found more comfortable. I play a Monette 94 and 94F. Objectively, the 18 and 24AW are pretty close in the depth/shape of cup department, the inside diameter of the rim of the 18 is about .023 (twenty three thousanths) larger than the 24AW. The 24AW rim itself is about 58 thousanths wider than the 18 - this is where my preference for the 24AW comes in.
However, I think you may find most folks like the 18 for all the reasons I don't. Oh well.
