at the music camp I go to, the directors wait until they see what instruments show up to write arrangements. last year, jon passed out some music for us to learn, and starts conducting. after about 6 bars i realize that my music stops, and everyone else's keeps going. I muck it through the rest of the song just playing chord roots, and later ask him what exactly was going on. jon conesses that he'd put it together around 2 am the night bepore, and must have orgotten to inish writing the tuba bart. so i was instructed to fake it for the rest of the times we played the song. ater a rehearsal or 2 i got into a petty good groove with it, and it all worked out nicely. it showed me that being able to play by easr is deinitely useful or unavoiable situations, thus getting you more gigs :)
