I play in one band that never ever uses music. Its a 16 piece marching band where the first trumpet player just starts playing a song and everyone else has to follow him making up typical marching band style parts. Being able to fake has proved extremely useful, and I usually find a nice bonus in my check when that skill saves the director some grief.
