In fact, in the possibly-memorable past (depending on one's age), I was runner-up at a (just barely, but) reasonable living wage orchestra job audition with only a 3/4 CC tuba on my arm...and auditioning to replace a retiring player with a 6/4 Holton York copy.

A Gronitz PCK tuba is large, but certainly not the world's largest tuba...Why didn't those with somewhat larger tubas prevail over Alan Baer? They had three shots at him...
