is to tack the CC prospect together without actually damaging any of the original BBb parts, so at any stage, the operation is reversible. For example, altering my current project BBb to CC involved replacing the bottom bow, bell and one of the inside loops. The inside loop in question was made from a junker Pan American euphonium top bow (redoing the taper, of course). The only actual trimming is done on the slides and is the last thing after the intonation and sound on the open bugle has been tested.

Folks like Bob Rusk have been "cutting" BBb's and Eb's so long that they've got a pretty good idea of what will work and what won't.
