The time of year is less important on eBay than here. There are many students here, not so many on eBay that do the buying. Professional grade, name brand instruments sell better there than here quickly. If you know what you are doing, the auction site can net you more than a single price here. If you are a novice at selling on the auctin site, prepare for an education and maybe a very low price or no sale at all. Try to price your item low enough at the beginning to attract attention, and thus many bidders. Many bidders on the first couple of days usually means a good ending price. If you set a reserve be willing to tell what it is to those who email you. Don't list it in the ad. Be totally honest with the description. Tell how it plays for you and what the major characteristics are: dark, bright, great intonation with what mouthpiece, is a mouthpiece included, a case?, a gig bag?, how many dents and scratches and where are they?, lots of pictures, how the low or high register plays, big sound, small sound, etc. You should have the picture by now. Accept only PayPal or Postal money orders for payment and never, ever sell to anyone from Indonesia or Nigeria. PayPal only from overseas buyers and require payment prior to shipment including shipping costs. Suggest insurance for the buyer and also shipment methods. Tubas sent overseas can be a nightmare unless you know a knowledgeable exporter. A domestic sale is probably best unless you want to ship via air freight with a flight case. Trucking companies charge a lot but are relatively safe, bus freight is pretty good but their insurance limits are very low. FedEx, UPS, DHL, and others are good but expensive for the big stuff.

Good luck with selling your item. Once you get the hang of sales on the auction site, the money is good to have. Small goods are much easier to do than the big stuff.
