I have played both King and Conn big Eb tubas. I like the King a lot better of all that I have played. I think with any older horn you could find some bad notes but the Kings have usually been the better of the two in my experience. There was a Conn that I played that I liked a lot because it was very big but after I played it I did not care for it that much. The BBb below the staff felt like there was a slide missing or a very large leak in the horn. The note was playable but felt and sounded very weak no matter the finger combination 1/3 or 4th. Play them both if you can and see which one you like better. Cases are pretty cheap anyway so that should not matter too much in the deal. I would go for the best player myself.
