a friend here in town has two alphorns...one in F and one in Ab. So they do come in various keys; but you will need to know the key first.

Since the Dij is only on one pitch, sometimes with the octave-and-a-fifth above it also being produced, you would need a piece of music that had a drone in it, and if the alphorn did not match the pitch of the Dij....it would get difficult.

I think this combo sounds like a lot of fun, and would try to play something nice rather than something silly on it. The Dij can also be used as sort of a percussion, if the player is good. I just heard a good Dij player last night....he showed me the steps to learn circular breathing, which I really could use on tuba.
