I'll take a stab at this.
The serial number doesn't make sense according to the standard Holton serial numbers. 57xxx would put the horn about 1918, but the Collegiate line wasn't brought out until the 1930's.
"Everything moves freely" is good, but it doesn't mean that the valves have decent compression, nor does it say that the instrument plays in tune.
The Collegiate line was Holton's entry-level line and the age of this horn and it being a French import makes me wonder if you wouldn't be better off looking for a better instrument.
