I disagree with you on your statment of pop artists not being good enough to write their own material. Lots of the top pop artists wrote most of their own stuff. To name a few off the top of my head: Beatles, Elton John, Barry Manilow, Queen, Creedance Clearwater Revival, Blood Sweat and Tears, Chicago, Shania Twain and those are just the ones off the top of my head.
