King serial numbers are generally on the (#2) valve casing. I know of no instance where King put their numbers anywhere else. Perhaps in the course of refinishing the number was removed or maybe it was a stencil and somehow escaped ever having a serial number. There are many pictures elsewhere on the web that might help you identify the horn. Can you post a picture or describe the horn in question?
