 Altghough the caseings might be dented, other then that
there's nothing to go wrong with a tapered rotary valve. 
If the rotor gets too loose a good tech. can usually 
recondition them by swedging them. 
 Yes it dosn't cure all but most tubas are renewed 
to near perfect in miniutes !
 When the casing to too far gone, they will just need 
re-swedging much sooner.
It isn't unheard of to fing a rotary tuba over one hundred
years old that plays fine.
