I used to have a York 4V front-action Eb that (surprize!) played quite well-enough in tune to be a good useable instrument. I liked to play it standing up. The only way I could manage this was with a generic strap with a sliding wool-lined pad. Prior to putting a finish on the tuba, I soldered two traditional (but quite heavy-duty) strap rings on the back of the instrument to receive the generic strap. I tweaked the placement of the two rings until the mouthpiece lined up perfectly with my face with the tuba just "hanging" from the strap.

I've never since been able to get any other tuba with any sort of "add-on" non-rings-utilizing strap to come anywhere close to lining up properly with playing position.

The best of luck to you, and Merry Christmas.
