I've played one of those Maestro BBb tubas from ebay. A guy from my community band bought one. It is NOT a terrible instrument like everybody seems to think. Doesn't play as nice as a 186 but i sound the same on each. The valves needed work but had good pop. I wouldn't buy one but i think it is worth the price paid ($1k).

I keep seeing the argument about that you'll never be able to get replacement parts for these horns. I'm sorry, but the lack of replacement parts doesn't matter!
A repairman worth his salt can measure bore sizes and order valves that are close enough, make leadpipes or order them, braze cracks, solder leaks, replace linkages, retap screws, etc ....

Nobody talks about not buying other old junk off of ebay due to lack of replacement parts.
