As someone who is blessed/cursed with "AP," I'll put in my two cents that pitch recognition is not the same as correct intonation. Correct intonation requires that whatever pitch you are playing fits in with what is going on around you...and someone who is "stuck" on what they believe is the absolute correct frequency for a pitch, is not going to play in tune.
