Luck is a byproduct of hard work.

Age has nothing to do with auditions. Neither does luck.

Do everything possible to prepare. If you can think of something else you could be doing, then do it. If you know it is possible to practice 1 more hour that day then do it. If you know a way to listen to various recordings of the tunes, then do it. If you know that getting feedback from peers can help then do it. If you can think of anything to help then do it.

Most of us know what we are neglecting to do to prepare for these things. We have all sorts of reasons as to why they don't get done. Work, school, kids, favorite TV show, party, too little money, no place to practice, no good teacher around, bad chops, bad mouthpiece, bad horn, my dog ate the audition music.

Those who can best balance the rest of their lives with the need to sharpen the axe are the ones who have the best "luck".
