I'll also cast my vote for the Bell "Foundation to Tuba and Sousaphone Playing" published by Carl Fischer. This is a great book with sections on musical notation, tonguing studies, really the whole nine yards. Especially good are the 60+ year old written comments Bell gives, almost all of which are still great advice to this day. Bell quickly brings you to a point where you're playing some of the harder band excerpts and all with a good approach to fundamentals. After the Bell book, I would look at H.W. Tyrrell's "Advanced Studies for the BBb Tuba" published by Boosey. The first few studies are not so advanced but the later ones are very tricky and have a nice blend of technical and musical demands. Good luck!
