With most of the Aebersold books you get the CD and the lead written in C, Bb, Eb treble clef and C bass clef. The bass clef is written for the trombone so it's probably up an octave from where you'd want to play it.

If you take the first five volumes in order, they will teach you the fundamentals. After that you could go on to whatever interests you.

Also, I would suggest that you start transcribing other peoples solos. Don't limit yourself to tuba either. There's no reason you can't learn from Gerry Mulligan or Toots Thielemans (baritone sax and harminica/guitar).

Try to sing a solo to yourself as you play it. It's amazing how easy it is to vocalize an improv and hit most of the harmonic changes. If you can learn to play what you hear in you mind, you be a hell of a soloist. But mostly, play, play, play.
