Don't buy what everybody else recommends!!! Really, how can you make a decision about buying a tuba without having had the vast majority of available models on your face for a trial? Or course, what your future teacher recommends is important because you will be working with that person for the next 4 years. But you need to find the horn that fits you because you might very well be using that tuba for the rest of your playing days. Nobody can tell you which tuba that is, not even your future teacher. You have to "GO WHERE THE TUBAS ARE!!!" (screamed in my best Sam Kinneson voice) and try them out for yourself. Search the archives of this BBS to find thousands of comments on what people think of various horns. Take those opinions into a reputable establishment that has LOTS of horns to try out and see what YOU feel about the various makes. But don't operate in a vacuum of knowledge. You might as well put on a blindfold and buy the first tuba you run into...

Good hunting!
