A colleague of mine who graduated from Ithaca College and is now playing in the US Coast Guard band built himself a flight case for his 6/4 Rudy Meinl BBb tuba. He spent countless hours working on this thing. He used some REALY hard fiberglass shell for it and lined it with space age foam blocks cut SPECIFICALLY to fit the tuba. He managed to make it so that "Caesar" would fit in the case and not move AT ALL. He finished the case and flew to Europe and back with it. I don't recall the extent of the damage but his tuba was NOT unscaved. I believe his bell was creased and some other minor damage. Moral of the story....buy a Walt Johnson.
