I know that temperature DOES have an affect on metal, and therefore the sound of your horn. Whenever your horn is exposed to an extreme temperature, you will know it right away. But I've never had a problem as extreme as the one you're describing. Maybe it's a combination of the metal and the manufacturing? I know that whenever I go from warm to cold temperatures, or vice-versa, I always take extra time warming up slowly so that the horn can adjust to the new temperature, and I can adjust my embouchre (as well as the slides, etc.) Just my 2 cents.
