I'm in the exact same situation as you... I'm heading off to college next year, and I just bought my first tuba. I played a TON of horns at Woodwind and Brasswind in Indiana and my final choice was the Mirafone 186. It is a better all around horn... but try them, don't just go by what the prof. says. I was between the Mirafone and a Perantuccie PT-4, but in the end I couldn't go w/out that damn Mirafone, and I love it!!!
