The list is usually referred to as the Big 5.
Chicago
New York
Boston
Philadelphia
Cleveland
Some examples of orchestras which are right on par with the Big 5, but have shorter histories of consistant excellence would be St. Louis, San Francisco, Houston, and Atlanta.
