I don't actually set mine on the floor. I keep it on my lap, but I'll lay it down to get the pressure off my legs. 'course, I have a Piggy, which is a bit easier to manage on the lap.

Some conductors will insist you keep it up. Ick. None of mine ever have. (Well, they do insist that it stays up after the last note, until they set the baton down.)

We do annoy the conductor a bit by not standing with the rest of the band. It seems disrespectful, but we have a small stage and we tubists are wedged between the tympani (OUCH!) behind and the trombones in front of us. When we stand, we knock the stands over. :/
